This strategy is based on the WHO Global Action plan that was just approved at the World Health Assembly in May. All countries are now expected to develop action plans based on the WHO plan.
AIMED - Let's talk about antibiotics
This week Health Minister, Susan Ley and Agriculture Minister, Barnaby Joyce released a statement regarding the publication of Australia’s first national strategy to address antimicrobial resistance. The strategy covers the next 4 years and aims to reduce Australia’s antimicrobial use to combat resistance.
The strategy provides guidance about using antibiotics in the most effective way in both human and animals (the ‘One Health’ approach). The strategy also aims to reduce Australia’s antimicrobial use, as it is currently one of the highest in developed countries.
The full press release and a downloadable copy of the strategy is available here.
